The PowerUSB-Digital-IO is an entry level Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) device that can control AC power through power outlets, get Digital Logic Inputs and control Digital Logic outputs through the provided terminal block. It provides the digital input-output control in addition to the basic PowerUSB functionality. It is also an interface device for digital logic (sensors and other instruments) to computer via USB port. This feature makes PowerUSB an integrated, easy to use/program and low-cost PLC Instrumentation controller. Digital-IO features can be used with standard application software provided with PowerUSB. The Digital-IO features are enabled when the Digital-IO unit is connected to computer. These Digital-IO features can also be integrated into other customer's software by using API libraries available for download from http://www.pwrusb.com/downloads.html.The provided software helps in basic logic control of the device. This logic control can be tested in the PC and then downloaded into PowerUSB for standalone operation. For advanced logic control that requires multiple logic conditions, the customer should write their own program using PowerUSB API and use the PowerUSB as a computer attached peripheral. The Digital-IO device has 4 opto-isolated digital inputs that can sense the input logic signal from sensors and other instruments. It can take the input voltage from 5 to 12 VDC thus works with sensors that output 5V and 12V. The Digital-IO device has 3 opto-isolated digital outputs whose logic state can be controlled from PowerUSB. The user has to input an external DC voltage between 5-12V in the input section. This voltage is output in the Digital Output ports. The output state can be controlled from the attached computer or can be programmed to change internally based on the input state triggers. The status of the output can be confirmed by measuring the voltage between Ground and Output1-3.
